Efforts Continue to Prevent Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem

Full Text;

Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar this week came out strongly against the International Gay Pride Parade, scheduled to take place in Jerusalem next month. Rabbi Amar joined a growing list of prominent religious leaders, Jewish, Catholic and Muslim, who came out against the parade.

Rabbi Amar stated the Torah prohibits homosexuality and in the past, “such people hid their life style,” lamenting the fact that today, “there is no shame”. Rabbi Amar called the planned event an “abomination,” stating it is an affront to “all decent people.”

New York Rabbi Yehuda Levine has arrived in Israel for just that purpose, to work to ensure the event does not take place. Rabbi Levine told reporters he is backed by some 1,000 rabbis, adding he has made numerous trips as he continues efforts to prevent the parade from taking place.

Other leading Torah authorities who came out against the event include Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Rabbi Sholom Yosef Elyashiv, the Jerusalem-based Eida Hareidit Rabbinical Court, and former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu.
