Israel Radio diplomatic affairs correspondent Shmuel Tal reported this afternoon that the Security Cabinet decided at its meeting today to instruct the IDF not to take action to stop terrorists seen about to launch rockets towards Israel nor to try to hit them immediately after they have launched the rockets.
Defense Minister Amir Peretz and Public Security Minister Avi Dichter argued that Israel was obligated to protect its citizens but they were overruled by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Livni who maintained that there were other considerations that transcended preventing Israelis from being murdered by Qassam rockets.
