Olmert: Peace Within Five Years
Full Text;
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Saturday night that a comprehensive regional peace plan could be reached within five years. While Olmert said that the Saudi plan, which calls for Israel to give the PA all of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza and to accept several million Arabs as citizens, is “not good enough,” he said that it is much better than the peace plans offered in the past. Olmert called the plan “very interesting,” and said that he sees Saudi Arabia’s role in the Middle East as very positive.
Olmert also said that he is not ready to rule out negotiations with Syrian politicians, who have demanded that Israel give them the strategic Golan Heights. “I will never say ‘no,’” Olmert said, but added that he would like to see some kind of progress before resuming talks, in order to ensure that the talks would not fail immediately.
